About
My name is Jax
I'm a product designer with a uniquely interdisciplinary background spanning chemistry, mechanical engineering, and sculpture.
After graduating from Santa Clara University with a degree in Chemistry and minors in mechanical engineering and sculpture, I began my professional journey in 2021 working in an R&D lab focused on CO2 capture reactions for cementitious materials. While the scientific work was challenging, I found myself missing the creative edge that had always driven me, which led me to pursue my current Master's in Creative Technology and Design at CU Boulder.
My passion lies in industrial design, specifically product design where I can obsess over small details and create durable, high-quality products that stand the test of time. I believe my unusual cross-disciplinary background has given me a distinct perspective—look at unusual things with unusual eyes—allowing me to approach design challenges from multiple angles and collaborate effectively with diverse teams.
Through my master's program, I've significantly enhanced my coding abilities and time management skills, while discovering new interests in physical computing and computational fabrication. I particularly enjoy integrating physical computing elements into artistic projects, bringing a unique technological dimension to creative work.
This portfolio showcases current course projects from my academic journey at CU Boulder, demonstrating my evolution as a designer and my commitment to excellence in product design. Each project represents not just a class assignment, but a step toward my goal of creating thoughtful, durable products that enhance people's lives.
